James John Rose Jr. (“Jay”), 51, of Vineyard Haven and formerly of Falmouth, died unexpectedly on May 21, 2021, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.
James was born and raised in Falmouth, where he enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard upon graduation from Falmouth High School in June 1988. While serving in the National Guard, Jay successfully completed such courses as the Field Artillery Cannon Crewman Course, received recognition for his outstanding performance supporting the New Bedford Half-Marathon, successfully completed the Primary Leadership Development Course, and received multiple letters of commendation for his hard work, dedication, attention to detail, and commitment to both his home state of Massachusetts and our country. After 12 years of service, Jay was honorably discharged.
Throughout Jay’s life, he consistently committed himself to working hard and being a role model for those who worked for and with him. His family was extremely important to him, and he tried his best to ensure they knew that. Jay’s favorite pastime was to ride his motorcycle, grab a cup of joe from Dunkin’ Donuts, and hang out in Falmouth. He was very proud of his precious truck, and had a strong interest in golf. But the most important recent moment in his life was finding his forever person, Madelin. Seeing the way the two of them interacted, spoke to one another, and looked into each other’s eyes proved that Madelin loved Jay to the core of his being, and Jay loved her the same. What a blessing to know what true love is before you leave this earth! Both Madelin and Jay were super-blessed to experience that.
Jay was predeceased by his mother Julia Rose. He is survived by his wife Madelin Gabriela Rose from Ecuador; and by his father James John Rose Jr. He is also survived by his children, James Ernest Rose of Dayton, Maine, Shaiann Rose-Andrade of Holyoke, Alissia Julia Rose of Holyoke, and Nina Marie Rose of Falmouth; his sisters, Kim Renee Balboa of Surprise, Ariz., Louann Rose of Falmouth, Tara Lyn Rose of Dallas, and Erica Patricia Cooper of State College, Penn.; his brother, Eric Patrick Rose of Falmouth; and by five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, at 475 Main St. in Falmouth, on Friday, June 18, from 10 to 11. His funeral Mass will follow, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway, East Falmouth, MA 02536, at 11:30 am. Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
